In case you hadn't noticed, it seems there is no shortage of negative stuff happening in the world right now. If we focus on it, though, it can grow larger and larger in our minds, until it seems like the entire world is about to implode.

- Be mindful in this moment. Take a deep breath and ask: How am I right now? How are things in this moment? Am I OK?
- Take a few minutes and feel gratitude. Write down or think about some things you are grateful for, right now. Then allow yourself to feel the gratitude for these things drift through your body.
- Eliminate the negative news. Stop watching and listening to the news on TV, radio, or internet video. Pretty radical, I know! You don't have very much control over what goes into your brain with these formats. You get what the news crew decides to send you, and most of what they send out is negative because it incites fear and grabs ratings. If you do need to keep tabs of the news, read a newspaper either in print or online. Reading your news rather than watching or hearing it gives you much more control over what comes into your mind.
- Be a Pollyanna. Expect to see the good in the world around you. Search out good news on the internet and share it with others. When you see a kind act, be grateful for seeing it. When you see evidence of love, smile and say a silent "Thanks." When you look for the good around you, and even come to expect it, seeing good things becomes your new "normal" over time.
- Create a little good for someone else. If you're in line at the coffee shop, pay the bill of the person in line behind you. Leave a "Have a Beautiful Day" note in the middle of a library book for someone else to find. Bring flowers to an elderly neighbor, just because. Let's spread the good by being kind to others for no apparent reason :-)
